I’m watching Cromartie High School at the moment. This is from the first episode; the later episodes get a lot funnier.
I can never understand when people say Fruits Basket is a great anime. I have read the entire series, and the anime just does not compare. I feel like the anime was just too slow. The “ending” of the anime was the 5th or 6th volume in the manga…and the anime was like 26 episodes. I guess I am just biased.
I am not saying it is an awful anime, I just wish they extended it to finish the series. Considering how popular the manga is, I bet the anime could have become even more popular.
I would like to vouch for this. I enjoyed the dub much more than the subbed. Maybe it’s a personal preference, but the English voice actors did an excellent job portraying the characters and their reactions. I suggest those whom haven’t, watch the dub.
It depends on the anime whether or not I prefer dub v sub. For Cromartie I definitely prefer dubbed. Much of the comedy comes from the inflections and tone of each characters voice. If you don’t understand Japanese much of the humor is lost. Many of the delinquents have certain accents that make then sound tough but most of us wouldn’t notice hearing only the subbed version.
A part of the series is a lot of the characters are afraid of him because he’s so non-delinquent that they think he must be such a badass that he doesn’t need to posture.
maybe my wording was bad. The main character (the one writing to his mother) is considered a badass because he doesn’t posture like the other guys. Instead, he’s actually a very normal guy who somehow got put into the school with these delinquents. So because of the rule Beware the Nice Ones, the other guys in the school think he’s top dog.
The whole series is basically other people coming to him with their problems because they think he’s tough enough to solve anything.
